Switzerland is also home to the Abbey Library in St. Gallen, which, as a cultural asset of world format, has been recognised as a world heritage site. The country is also blessed with landscapes that are so unique they are protected by UNESCO.
The Aletsch Glacier and the Lavaux vineyards, for example. And many more. Unique assets are worth protecting. We have a duty to preserve them - and also to share them.

Custodian of peace
Some things are so valuable that all of humanity should watch over them: uniquely attractive towns, landscapes and cultural treasures as examples. And peace, too. "Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed." This is the guiding principle of UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation that was founded in 1945. Its uppermost goal is to preserve peace. The organisation also manages the world heritage of humanity, both cultural and natural.
