The days of construction sites are over: the Bahnhofplatz on Alp Grüm shines in new splendour. Visitors can look forward to a viewing point that does justice to the surrounding area and the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
One man's joy is another man's sorrow. Alp Grüm station square was a blessing for the construction companies commissioned by RhB as they were able to temporarily store the necessary building materials on the square for the renovation of the galleries in the Alp Grüm area. For visitors, however, it was important to be patient – patient until the view of Valposchiavo and the Palü Glacier became unobstructed again.
It was worth the wait, as the unrestricted view of the Palü Glacier is impressive. The newly created benches, the staircase made of natural stone and harmoniously integrated into the grounds, photo points and information columns invite guests to linger on Alp Grüm. At the same time, visitors can learn interesting facts about the RhB World Heritage Site and the Bernina Glacier offers.
Even during the construction work, it was clear that the Bahnhofplatz would be upgraded. The aim of the redesign was to bring the uniqueness and values of the railway heritage and the landscape to life. As with all measures along the RhB World Heritage Site, attention was paid to authenticity, originality and quality in the materials and design.
