The articulated Alvra trains

Modern rolling stock for the railway's prestige line

These six articulated trains represent the Rhaetian Railway's consistent approach to the renewal of its fleet. Passengers benefit from air-conditioned carriages, the latest information systems and low-floor access.

The articulated Alvra trains are equipped with amply proportioned low-floor access with retractable steps, disabled toilet facilities, air-conditioned passenger compartments and the latest information systems. Passenger accommodation consists of 63 seats in first class and 217 in second class, along with 13 folding seats and space for four wheelchairs.

Each articulated train is also equipped, in addition to its first- and second-class seating, with a family section with a children’s play area, and a leisure section for mountain bikers, hikers and sledgers, plus a photographers' viewing area with large picture windows.

New control cars

The Rhaetian Railway is acquiring six of the latest «At 578» control cars for push-pull operation of the articulated Alvra trains. The presence of a locomotive and a control car at their respective extremes of the articulated train will help shorten its stopping times at dead-end terminal stations, as there is no longer any need to uncouple the locomotive and shunt it from one end to the other.

The Rhaetian Railway is also acquiring eight «Bt 528» type universal control cars to complement those destined for use with the articulated Alvra trains. These will be deployed as part of shuttle trains throughout the network from 2018 onwards.
