Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina Landscapes was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2008 – as one of the most spectacular mountain railways in the world. Impressive viaducts, tunnels and the beautiful mountains of Graubünden make this track a unique experience.
But World Heritage is about more than just amazement: behind the scenes, the RhB World Heritage Association takes care of its preservation, projects to impart knowledge bring railway culture to schools and excursions, and the World Heritage Experience Switzerland links RhB with other UNESCO World Heritage sites in Switzerland and around the world.

The world of Rhaetian Railway experiences is about more than just rails: special elements such as historical settlement centres, ensembles, individual buildings and facilities, historical transport routes and the unique man-made structures of our railway lines round off the tourist offer. These historical buildings and monuments are brought to life in the spirit of cultural heritage.
With the holiday apartment in the Alvaneu station building, historical moments become tangible. Where passengers were welcomed and bid farewell and goods were handled along the Albula Line from 1903 to the 1980s, the station manager’s apartment on the upper floor was converted into a holiday apartment for up to five guests in cooperation with the Ferien im Baudenkmal foundation and the Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments of the Swiss canton of Graubünden.
