Canoe transport

From the rail to the water

Take a journey of discovery on Rhaetian Railway. Our canoe transport service allows you to transport your canoe safely and conveniently to your next adventure.

Important information

There are a few points to bear in mind to ensure safe canoe transport for all passengers:

  • bicycles, pushchairs and wheelchairs have priority and are transported before the boats.

  • Train staff may refuse to transport boats if there is not enough space.

  • Maximum quantities of boats refer to the empty train. In practice, space is usually tight with 5-10 boats. If possible, groups should be spread across all compartments with loading options.

  • Boats must be well secured on the train.

  • Maximum length of boats: 3.50 metres

  • The following water sports equipment is subject to a charge: kayaks, Canadian singles and doubles, rafting/inflatable boats (transport only for folded rafting/inflatable boats), surfboards

  • The following water sports equipment is free of charge (if folded): packraft, funyak, inflatable canoe, stand-up paddle board

  • The following water sports equipment will not be transported: competition boats, other boats

Loading capacity

A train consists of two train sections, each with four carriages. Use the 1st class carriage as a guide to identify the bicycle compartment, the bicycle/wheelchair compartment and the passenger compartment. The following loading capacities apply for the individual carriages:

  • 1st class: No boats permitted

  • Bicycle compartment: max. 8 boats permitted, horizontal, up to 3.50 metres

  • Bicycle/wheelchair compartment: max. 6 boats permitted, upright, up to 2.70 metres

  • Passenger compartment: max. 2 boats permitted, upright, up to 2 metres
