Fewer greenhouse gases RhB wants to emit fewer harmful gases and protect the Earth. To do so, RhB is building solar panels, buying electric cars and replacing diesel locomotives to reduce emissions of harmful gases to a minimum by 2050 (net zero).

Saving energy RhB has a strategy to consume less energy. The company buys cars and trains that use little energy. Other measures include the recovery of electricity (recuperation), the automatic heating of points and the use of LED lamps.

Biodiversity RhB travels through a beautiful Alpine region with many different plant and animal species. It is very important to protect it so that future generations can also enjoy this diversity. RhB has a plan to combat harmful plants and is also helping the Swiss canton of Graubünden to conserve nature in its biodiversity strategy.

Circular economy and waste Circular economy means that materials or products are used repeatedly, thus resulting in less waste. RhB is working to recycle materials and generate as little waste as possible.

Avoiding pollution To protect the environment, RhB makes sure that no harmful hydraulic oil escapes from the trains. New trains are built in such a way that they are more environmentally friendly and that less oil can leak out.

Sustainable procurement As a large company in the region, RhB pays attention to the fair and sustainable procurement of resources.

Regional resilience RhB sources its resources from the region wherever possible. This will strengthen the regional economy and create jobs, as well as resulting in shorter transport routes.

Customer priority RhB wants to make travelling by train easy and convenient for everyone. RhB attaches particular importance to making this possible for passengers with reduced mobility. RhB has been receiving data protection advice since 2023 to ensure that customer data collected through ticket sales or video surveillance is protected.

Occupational health and safety RhB attaches great importance to protecting the health and safety of all employees. RhB has a safety system in place to minimise the risks posed by noise pollution and electricity. Care is also taken to ensure that all employees pay attention to safety and attend regular training sessions. The health of its employees is also important to RhB, which is why discounts are also offered on fitness subscriptions, bicycle helmets and promotions such as “bike to work”.
