Rhaetian Railway transports people and goods through the beauty of Swiss nature on a daily basis. The high energy requirements required by our journeys offer great potential for making a decisive contribution to climate protection.

Due to denser timetables, state-of-the-art technology and more comfort on board, energy requirements are constantly increasing. But our goal is clear: we want to take many small and large steps to reduce our energy consumption and ensure sustainable travel and transport. Examples include:

• We control our points heaters automatically so that they only need electricity when they really need it.

• We heat our buildings as efficiently as possible.

• We optimise our vehicles so that they use as little energy as possible.

A large number of these measures contribute to our energy consumption not increasing at the same rate as our train output – which is good for our climate.

We are particularly proud that all our buildings and electric trains are powered by hydropower. 100% renewable, directly from the region. In this way, we make an active contribution to climate protection day in and day out, getting passengers and goods to their destination in an environmentally friendly way.

Rhaetian Railway is committed to protecting our natural resources. After all, unspoilt nature is not only a habitat for flora and fauna, but also the basis for our quality of life and the long-term success of RhB.

To achieve this goal, we have set up an “environmental management system”. It helps us to bundle all environmental issues and make targeted improvements.

What does that mean in practice?

• We use resources sparingly and with an eye to tomorrow
