Rhaetian Railway Inc. has been offering unique railway experiences across the Swiss canton of Graubünden since 1889. The Bernina Express and Glacier Express panoramic trains and the UNESCO World Heritage Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina Landscapes are internationally renowned brands. Rhaetian Railway ensures reliable transport chains throughout the canton with the regional and freight trains and the Vereina car transporter.
Around 1,800 employees work daily to ensure that passengers get unforgettable experiences in the unique mountain landscape and reach their destination safely. Training as a train driver gives you the chance to be on the front line and transport our customers and goods safely from A to B.

Main tasks
You will be trained on all traction vehicles in use.
You will cover the entire Rhaetian Railway network.
In addition to passenger and freight trains, you also drive Vereina car transporters and special trains carrying workers.
You get our passengers to their destination safely, on time and without any issues.
You value rules and regulations and act accordingly.

Training
Modular training
The training starts four times a year with a class of nine participants, on 1 February, 1 May, 1 August and 1 November. The training to become a universal train driver lasts a maximum of 18 months in total. After just nine months, once you have completed the railcar test, you will be driving our Capricorn railcar trains independently.
Stage 1: Training as a railcar driver cat. B Capricorn railcar (9 months) Stage 2: Consolidation stage (6 months) Stage 3: Training as a universal train driver cat. B (3 months)
Development opportunities
Practical or theory instructors
Instructor (with SVEB certificate or Federal PET Diploma)
Examination expert (FOT recognised)
Head train driver
External further training, such as public transport managers
Even if their role changes, train drivers usually continue to drive the minimum number of hours specified by the FOT in order to retain their driving license.

Requirements for career change
Completed three-year vocational apprenticeship (Federal VET Diploma) or federal academic baccalaureate
Minimum age at start of training: 19 years
Very good oral and written knowledge of German
Medical and psychological fitness (clarifications during recruitment)
Clean criminal record
High level of safety awareness and responsibility, as well as willingness to work irregular hours
Possession of a category B car driving licence
