The Albula Valley in winter is a sight worth seeing: on the trip through the UNESCO World Heritage site, the train climbs 1,000 metres in altitude, travels across the Landwasser Viaduct and through helical tunnels. For a surcharge of just five francs, you can take your seat in the comfortable panoramic car.
Whether it's an ibex perched on a rock, a bearded vulture circling in the air or a glacier glinting in the sun at even higher altitude: the RhB's panoramic cars sharpen your eye for detail. Treat yourself to a seat in the panoramic car with all-round views of the Albula Valley. For just five francs extra you can admire the fairytale winter landscape with its snow-covered tree tops, frozen brooks and engineering structures through extra-large windows. The famous stretch of track between Thusis and St. Moritz has UNESCO World Heritage status.
In winter, the panoramic cars operate hourly in combination with the regional trains from Chur and St. Moritz. The RhB advises you to book well in advance. Those travelling spontaneously can pay on board the train – providing there are seats available.
By the way: On the Bernina Line from St. Moritz to Tirano, panoramic cars also operate in combination with regional trains.

The Albula and Bernina section of track is a masterpiece in terms of civil engineering and routing. Landscape and railway blend into one: in wide radiuses, ingenious man-made structures punctuate rugged valleys. The Landwasser Viaduct, the helical tunnels between Bergün and Preda and the Brusio Circular Viaduct all stand testimony to the early, pioneering days of the railway.
Large windows providing all-round views, pleasantly air-conditioned and generously laid out: The panoramic cars offer comfort in both 1st and 2nd class – including leg room.
1st class offers generous, comfortable single and double seats. Thanks to the lower number of passengers per coach, your journey is quiet and relaxed.
In 2nd class, you enjoy comfortable double seats with sufficient leg room.
The Albula Railway Museum in Bergün takes railway fans on a journey into the past. A simulator lets visitors drive the legendary Crocodile locomotive along the Albula Line themselves. Railway enthusiasts and families will be fascinated by the old stamps, films and models.
Along the famous track to pure excitement on wooden runners: that's what the Preda/Darlux – Bergün sledging adventure holds in store. After the train has spiralled its way up the mountainside, the descent by sledge can begin: six kilometres from Preda to Bergün and four kilometres from Darlux to Bergün.
The world's fastest hiking trail: in winter, the three-kilometre route becomes an ice trail. Young and old alike skate alongside the Abula River from Surava to Alvaneu. A shuttle bus takes you from Surava up to Alvaneu Bad. Skates and protective equipment can be hired on-site.
