Go hiking in the wild Rhine Gorge, shopping in the capital of Chur or enjoy the local cuisine in the charming wine-growing area around Maienfeld.
The Rhine flows gently through the valley between Reichenau and Maienfeld, bypassing Chur on its right. However, the oldest town in Switzerland has attractions of its own in the form of nifty restaurants, small shops and the Brambrüesch cable car that carries passengers directly to the top of Chur's very own mountain.
This part of the Rhine Valley is blessed with a mild climate, ideal for growing grapes on the gently rolling hills. A wine hiking trail leads walkers past grapes on the vine to idyllic locations. Discover the pearls of this small area, which produces some great wines, at your leisure.
Landquart has always been of special importance to the Rhaetian Railway. It was from here that the very first train departed for Klosters back in 1889. Today it is hub for train maintenance, control and management as well as freight forwarding.
Tip: In Landquart, you can pick up bargains at the Landquart Fashion Outlet. More than 50 brands present their wares in a small chalet-style village.

A small cable car carries passengers directly to the top of Chur's very own mountain. In winter, those who are feeling sporty can ski or sledge back down to the valley. In summer, Brambrüesch is a popular haunt for hikers and bikers.
Ruinaulta is the name given to the monumental Rhine Gorge between Ilanz and Reichenau in the local Romansh dialect. You will see rare birds, white rock faces and bizarre geological formations in the Swiss Grand Canyon that can only be crossed on foot, by bike, train or boat.
