Active relaxation in Lower Engadin
Kup VISA, Mastercard, Diners, JCB, Postfinance
Active relaxation is the order of the day in Lower Engadin: go hiking in the Swiss National Park from Zernez, walk in the footsteps of children's book character Schellenursli in Guarda and bathe in the soothing thermal waters in Scuol.
Genuine Engadin villages and a rich cultural history with architectural, linguistic and culinary specialities: Lower Engadin is well worth a visit, especially for its unique landscape. The National Park is home to marmots, ibex and deer. In the National Park Centre at Zernez, you can find out everything you need to know about the flora and fauna of Switzerland's largest protected area.
Samnaun is the only duty-free oasis in Switzerland. Winter sports fans also overcome barriers here: together with Ischgl, Samnaun has the largest ski resort in the Eastern Alps. After a day of activity, relax in the world of spas and saunas in Scuol – in the Roman-Irish baths, with unimpeded views of the surrounding mountains.
Our tip: Perched on a 100-metre high rock, the castle of Tarasp watches over the Lower Engadin. The 11th-century fortress is a regional landmark.

Guarda
In the village that is home to children's character "Schellen-Ursli", farmers, artists and artisans still sell their products. The hamlet on a sunny terrace high above the River Inn is known for its brightly painted houses decorated with flowers. The "Bell for Ursli" trail takes families through the story by Selina Chönz and Alois Carigiet.

Zernez
Zernez is located at the foot of the National Park. The experts at the National Park Centre will set you on the right (hiking) path in this region on the borders of Switzerland, Austria and Italy. In winter, the cross-country trails start right outside your door. Leisurely snow shoe tours lead to the Ofen Pass.

Samnaun
Enjoy VAT-free shopping in Europe's highest-altitude duty free area. With its 238 kilometres of slopes on Alp Trida and Idalp, the Silvretta Arena Samnaun/Ischgl is the largest ski resort in the eastern Alps. Despite the superlative skiing facilities on offer, Samnaun has remained a cosy and hospitable little mountain village.

UNESCO World Heritage Convent of St John
It all began with Charlemagne: the Convent of St John can look back on 1200 years of religious and cultural history. The convent church is home to the largest cycle of frescoes from the early Middle Ages to be found anywhere in the world. Soak up the special atmosphere as you enjoy a warming beverage in the Tea Room.

The castle of Tarasp
Perched on a one-hundred metre-high rock, the white fortress watches over the Lower Engadin. Its 1,000-year-old walls are reflected mysteriously in the waters of the lake below. If you visit the castle of Tarasp by Rhaetian Railway, you will receive a 20 per cent discount on the entrance fee, guided tour and travel.
