Ruinaulta is the name given to the monumental Rhine Gorge between Ilanz and Reichenau in the local Romansh dialect. You will see rare birds, white rock faces and bizarre geological formations in the Swiss Grand Canyon that can only be crossed on foot, by bike, train or boat.

What started out with the Flims Rockslide is now a unique natural backdrop: over a period of 10,000 years, the Rhine has pushed its way through the rock between Ilanz and Reichenau. The result is a gorge that is quite rightly known as the Swiss Grand Canyon. Train passengers, hikers and rafters cleave their way through the bizarre geological formations surrounded by old pine trees.

Train journey Reichenau – Tamins – Ilanz

You will travel through the untamed Rhine Gorge, along the turquoise-green waters of the Rhine, past rock walls known as 'ruinas' up to 350 metres high.

Lake Cauma

In the middle of a tranquil fir wood, it shimmers: Lake Cauma, the pearl of Flims, an oasis of relaxation. Thanks to its turquoise-green glittering waters, it is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes in which to bathe in Switzerland. It can be reached in just a few minutes on foot from Flims Waldhaus. The restaurant serves refreshing cocktails and genuine Flims beer.

«Il Spir» viewing platform

A bird's eye view for miles and miles: 180-degree panoramic views can be enjoyed from the «Il Spir» viewing platform, the name given to the Common Swift in Romansh. Chur-based architect Corinna Menn designed the platform, which can be easily reached from Flims Waldhaus via a pushchair-friendly hiking trail.
