Five of the most beautiful RhB stations

When travelling on our trains, you often quite rightly pay attention to the beautiful landscape of Graubünden. And the stations tend to get forgotten about in the process. That’s why we’d like to introduce you to five of the most beautiful RhB stations in

Tanja Thaler, Communications expert, 12. July 2022

Spinas station

Spinas is located in the Bever Valley and is the first stop directly after the Albula Tunnel when you are travelling from Chur. The station building from 1903 experienced something very special in July 2019: it was moved 1 metre and 12 centimetres! It had to be moved because of the construction of the new Albula Tunnel. At the same time, the station was modernised and adapted to accommodate disabled people. Back in 2014, the guard house in Preda, at the other end of the Albula Tunnel, was moved around 10 metres. The two buildings in the UNESCO World Heritage site were treated with particular care.

Davos Wiesen station

Davos Wiesen is a starting point for great walks. Many of them start with a special highlight: the footpath over the Wiesen Viaduct to the lookout point, where you can take a wonderful photo of our trains. Right next to the station is the cosy "Züga Beizli," where railway fans, bikers and hikers meet. And between May and October, the RhB Crocodile also makes regular stops here as part of its historic trips.

Madulain station

The municipality of Madulain in the Engadin describes itself as small, fine and quiet, but also cheerful, inviting and lively. And what applies to the community also applies to the station. Here in the Upper Engadin at 1,700 metres above sea level, on the Inn, you will find peace and quiet in the “secret” holiday resort, where you can retreat and relax.

Peist station

Our secret favourite. Peist station is located just below the village and has belonged to the municipality of Arosa since the merger of the Schanfigg communities in 2012. The zeitgeist from the time the railway was built is nowhere as present as on the Arosa Line. On the outside modelled on a chalet, all the station buildings at the intermediate stations bear a motto. “Time is in a hurry, man, be ready,” emblazoned on the station building in Peist, reflects the political situation at the time with the outbreak of the First World War and the difficult construction of the railway in the impressive but unstable landscape with its many side valleys.

Ospizio Bernina

There’s no higher climb on the RhB network. Ospizio Bernina station is located at 2,253 metres above sea level and is therefore our highest railway station. The station was built according to the plans of architect Nicolaus Hartmann, who also designed the Alp Grüm station building and the RhB administration building in Chur. In addition to the station buffet, the Ospizio Bernina station building also comprises four hotel rooms.
