A historic journey between Filisur and Davos

If you call up the route timetable for Filisur–Davos Platz, you’ll see the hourly connections. But two in particular stand out: those for the “nostalgic train”. A scheduled “nostalgic train”? Yes, that’s right.

Tanja Thaler, Communications expert, 03. May 2021

The experience

The adventure begins daily at 11.06 a.m. and 16.06 p.m. in Filisur. Before the historic train even leaves the station, you immediately feel transported back in time to the Twenties. Even the train staff are kitted out in the original uniform. But most impressive of all, of course, is our beloved “Crocodile”: the GE 6/6 I 414 built in 1929. Numerous elated fans sporting the latest cameras or mobile phones capture the 66-tonne locomotive on camera as she waits to embark on her journey to Davos Platz. Such a remarkable contrast!

Even the fascinating carriages leave passengers spoilt for choice. How about a trip aboard a 1st class carriage from 1903, for example? Restored in 1972, this carriage boasts a number of impressive interior details. Try out the comfortable seats and journey back in time to another era.

The train departs for Davos Platz on time. Instead of the usual 25 minutes, the journey takes 35 minutes – but who’s counting. More time for us to enjoy the ride across the striking Wiesen Viaduct, through the wild Zügen Gorge, slowly past the “Bärentritt” waterfall to Davos Platz.

The carriages

Look forward to a whole number of different carriages. When was the last time you travelled in 3rd class? Or do you prefer letting the wind whistle past your ears in an open scenic carriage? Here’s an overview:
