UNESCO World Heritage RhB
Discover the UNESCO World Heritage RhB
Each Sunday from 04.06.2017 to 03.09.2017, you can travel in the nostalgic wooden coaches and open scenic carriages from Landquart to Samedan, right through the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site, a railway paradise.
The cult Crocodile locomotive will transport families and railway fans to the Albula Valley (on 27th August and 3rd September the locomotive Ge 4/4I «BoBo I» will be used instead of the crocodile locomotive). You will travel through the Domleschg, valley of many castles, over the Solis and Landwasser viaducts and through the helical tunnels between Preda and Bergün in the open carriage or vintage wooden coaches.
It's worth making a stopover in Bergün: The Albula Railway Museum takes railway fans on a journey into the past. A simulator lets visitors drive the legendary Crocodile locomotive along the Albula Line themselves. Railway enthusiasts and families will be fascinated by the old stamps, films and models. At the Railway Museum and along the Railway Adventure Trail between Preda, Bergün and Filisur, you can find out more about the Albula/Bernina UNESCO World Heritage route and its engineering structures.
Tip: The railway line passes through Parc Ela. Explore Switzerland's biggest national park on foot.
Die Fahrt mit dem Erlebniszug Albula ist an sich schon ein Höhepunkt, aber es lohnt sich auch den einen oder anderen Stopp einzulgen, wie um Beispiel beim Parc Ela.
The Albula and Bernina section of track is a masterpiece in terms of civil engineering and routing. Landscape and railway blend into one: in wide radiuses, ingenious man-made structures punctuate rugged valleys. The Landwasser Viaduct, the helical tunnels between Bergün and Preda and the Brusio Circular Viaduct all stand testimony to the early, pioneering days of the railway.
The open carriages have neither glazing nor heating. Instead, there is the sheer pleasure of wind in your hair and fresh mountain air to enjoy.
Travel as they did 125 years ago: climb aboard the lovingly restored first, second or third-class coaches for a very special experience – travel the RhB network just like back in the early days.
The Albula Railway Museum in Bergün takes railway fans on a journey into the past. A simulator lets visitors drive the legendary Crocodile locomotive along the Albula Line themselves. Railway enthusiasts and families will be fascinated by the old stamps, films and models.
From the Solis Viaduct in Alvaschein until it reaches the tunnels in Preda, the line takes you through Parc Ela, Switzerland’s largest nature park, flanked by the Albula, Julier and Septimer Passes through the Alps. Moors, dry meadows and mountain lakes are all waiting to be discovered. Lace up your hiking boots – it's worth the trip.
The Albula Valley is dominated by engineering structures. The Railway Adventure Trail Albula leads from Preda to Bergün, then on to Filisur. Over its three stages you get a close-up view of viaducts, mountains and a roaring mountain brook. Information panels provide background information on the UNESCO World Heritage route.
