Ein Ort für Familien und Bahnliebhaber
The Albula Railway Museum in Bergün guides railway enthusiasts and families through the history of the railway in Graubünden. On a guided tour of the museum an expert will explain how the railway pioneers constructed viaducts 100 years ago, how rock faces were once measured and how the traction power supply used to work.
Even just getting there is an experience: you will travel on board an elegant charter coach to Bergün, where the RhB will welcome you with a Swiss stone pine schnapps. Then the journey continues – back into the past: in the Railway Museum, you will learn everything there is to know about the spectacular construction of the UNESCO World Heritage route. In the simulator of the historical Crocodile engine, you can operate the original buttons and levers on a virtual train ride through the Albula Valley. The special children's tour, with walk-through tunnel and interactive tasks, lets them get to know the Albula Line while having fun. All aboard!
Die Kinder bestaunen die Modelleisenbahn im Bahnmuseum Albula.
Find out the story behind the Rhaetian Railway; there are plenty of thrilling exhibitions to help you do just that.
Houses in the traditional Engadine style dating back to the 16th and 18th century line the main street of Bergün. Typical features such as sgraffito, bay windows and window gratings lend the village a special charm. The Kurhaus is over 100 years' old – the spa hotel was built around 1903, at the same time as the railway line.
The Albula and Bernina section of track is a masterpiece in terms of civil engineering and routing. Landscape and railway blend into one: in wide radiuses, ingenious man-made structures punctuate rugged valleys. The Landwasser Viaduct, the helical tunnels between Bergün and Preda and the Brusio Circular Viaduct all stand testimony to the early, pioneering days of the railway.
