On tour with RhB: hike, cycle, experience, admire. True to the motto “back to nature”, RhB’s new “Rhaetian Railway active tours” offer provides valuable tips for even more hiking and cycling fun this summer.

The active tours are a combination of attractive special circular tour tickets and hiking and biking tours throughout the Swiss canton of Graubünden. Enjoy twice the ride with RhB: for one, tour fans easily reach the start of their adventure – and return home or to their holiday residence by bike or on foot after a successful trip. For another, those riding with RhB and its partners benefit from a 20 per cent discount – even on additional services such as the PostBus, bus, cable cars, carriage rides and bike transport. The special circular tour tickets are available from 1 July to 31 October 2017.

Don’t despair, RhB is there: summer tips along the track

How about the Engadin-Panorama-Tour “Bernina Glaciers”: from St. Moritz by bus via Surlej and up the Corvatsch cable cars, on foot across the Fuorcla Surlej to the “Ballroom of the Alps” with a magnificent view of the Bernina Range. After descending into Val Roseg, a pleasant carriage ride to Pontresina awaits, followed by a train ride back to the point of departure with RhB.

Alternatively, discover the “Davos–Landwasser” bike tour in all its diversity – starting from Davos Wolfgang to Filisur – right along the river and the impressive Landwasser Viaduct.

Langwieser Viaduct

The red train hovers elegantly 62 metres over the Plessur River. With a length of 284 metres, the Langwieser Viaduct in the Schanfigg Valley is the largest RhB bridge. 100 years ago, pioneering railway builders constructed what was then the first railway bridge of its size to be made from reinforced concrete. Today, it is considered a heritage site of national importance. In winter it is romantically bathed in a glow of light.

Albula Line

Even today, the 62-kilometre Albula Line is still considered a masterpiece in terms of railway engineering and routing. The RhB opened the spectacular section of track between Thusis and St. Moritz in 1903, after just five years' construction. The red train climbs over 1,000 metres in altitude – thanks to the Solis Viaduct, Landwasser Viaduct and the helical tunnels between Bergün and Preda – without rack-and-pinion technology.
More information

Elegance, style and class: St. Moritz is not simply a holiday resort. This is the place where Alpine winter holidays were born in 1864. Nowadays, fabulous restaurants and internationally famous hotels welcome guests from around the globe.

The Prättigau region between Landquart and Davos is both gently rolling and at the same time wildly mountainous. Hikers, bikers, those with an interest in culture and those who enjoy the finer things in life will all find something to write home about here – coupled with true hospitality.

Landwasser Viaduct

The viaduct at Filisur spans the Landwasser Valley and leads directly into a tunnel. The construction of the three main pillars in 1901/02 was an outstanding architectural feat, considering that the viaduct was built using only two cranes and without scaffolding. This is the most spectacular landmark on the Rhaetian Railway and it has become famous the world over.

It looks like a village from a fairytale: Pontresina features both stylish hotel buildings from the Belle Epoque era and houses in the traditional Engadin style with sgraffito wall decorations. Woods exuding the wonderful smell of Swiss pine and imposing glaciers surround the spa town, situated at 1,800 metres above sea level.
