Spend two days travelling in the Alpine Classic Pullman coaches from St. Moritz to Zermatt – or vice versa. Visit the church in Zillis with its medieval frescoes, travel to the top of the Eggishorn in the UNESCO natural World Heritage Aletsch site or explore Chur, the oldest town in Switzerland.
Take a seat in the luxurious surroundings of the 'VIP' coach from the 1930s. The Crocodile locomotive will haul the historical train composition, consisting of Pullman coaches, the Gourmino dining car and the Piano Bar, as far as Disentis. Following an overnight stay at a cosy mountain inn in Andermatt, the vintage engine will carry you onwards the next day. The Furka mountain line conjures up the era of the railway pioneers: powered by fire and water, the steam engine will haul you over the pass to the final highlight on the famous Glacier Express route: the Matterhorn in Zermatt.
With the Glacier Pullman Express on the trais of the legendary "Orient-Express" through the Swiss Alps. You will experience a number of highlights on the trip from St. Moritz to Zermatt via Chur.
The Albula and Bernina section of track is a masterpiece in terms of civil engineering and routing. Landscape and railway blend into one: in wide radiuses, ingenious man-made structures punctuate rugged valleys. The Landwasser Viaduct, the helical tunnels between Bergün and Preda and the Brusio Circular Viaduct all stand testimony to the early, pioneering days of the railway.
Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau stand guard on the northern side of the Jungfrau-Aletsch region. At 23 kilometres, the Aletsch is the longest glacier in the entire Alps. You can enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the Aletsch Glacier and the mountains of Valais from the viewpoints at Moosfluh, Bettmerhorn and Eggishorn.
The Dampfbahn Furka-Bergstrecke (DFB) or Furka Cogwheel Steam Railway operates between Realp and Gletsch. In around two hours the old engine and carefully restored carriages make their way through the mountain landscape of the Ursen Valley and Upper Goms.
Enjoy fine specialities from the Valais region on the Fiescher Alp. Those in the know refer to the car-free plateau as «Kühboden» (cow pasture). Despite modern chalets and hotels it has kept its original, authentic feel.
Travel as they did 125 years ago: climb aboard the lovingly restored first, second or third-class coaches for a very special experience – travel the RhB network just like back in the early days.
There is no shortage of photo opportunities on the journey from St. Moritz to Zermatt: the Albula Valley with the spectacular route through tunnels and over viaducts, the white rock faces of the Rhine Gorge, the mighty Aletsch Glacier and the Matterhorn in Zermatt.
Freshly prepared lunch is served in the cosy surroundings of the Gourmino dining car. You can order nifty cocktails and fine drinks in the Piano Bar.
