RhB World Heritage Association

The governing body of the RhB UNESCO World Heritage

The RhB World Heritage Association was founded on 13 June 2007. The RhB World Heritage Association furthers the coordination between the institutions involved in the maintenance and ongoing development of the property. The association is supported by two professional committees which discuss how the railway and surrounding cultural landscape should be protected and maintained.

The Rhaetian Railway, the Federation, the Swiss canton of Graubünden, the province of Sondrio and communities lying at the perimeter are represented in the RhB World Heritage Association. Two professional committees act in an advisory capacity and assist the RhB World Heritage Association in maintaining the appearance, character and substance of the Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina Landscape. At the same time they support the ongoing development of the world heritage site taking account of the specified rules of the game, the values and objectives of UNESCO plus the treaty to protect the world's nature and cultural heritage.

In harmony with the RhB World Heritage Association's charter the professional committees endeavour to coordinate and further develop the existing protection and planning instruments for the railway and cultural landscape and examine the status of the world heritage using suitable monitoring and controlling measures.

By providing high quality and authentic information and tourism offerings, guests and locals alike should be informed and made aware of the unique values. At the same time the sustained benefits of the Rhaetian Railway as an environmentally friendly mode of transport, together with the regional value-added, should be promoted. This will ensure that the future of the UNESCO World Heritage site is safeguarded.
