So blue, so clean, so clear: the Swiss canton of Graubünden has more than 600 lakes. Build sandcastles, go paddling with the rock spirit or rafting – we’ll show you five bathing highlights.

1 Lag da Canova – the pearl of the Domleschg

Just above the village of Paspel in the Domleschg valley lies Lake Canova, nestling tranquilly in the beautiful landscape. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the car park by the school building in Paspel. Because Lake Canova is the property of the von Planta family, which runs the bathing facilities, swimming in the lake is subject to a fee. Due to its shallow depth, the water warms up with the first spring sunshine, which means the bathing season can start early. The kiosk sells ice cream, beverages, hot dogs and sweet snacks, and any sausages you bring along can be grilled on the fire pit on the eastern shore of the lake.

2 Lai Barnagn – one of the warmest bathing lakes in the Alps

At the heart of Savognin lies crystal-clear Lake Barnagn, one of the warmest bathing lakes in the Alps. Featuring a water trampoline, water games for children, a play raft and slide, a carousel, swings and a sand pit, the lake is especially popular with families – and thanks to two beach volleyball pitches, a minigolf course, pedalos and a raft, also a hit with adults.

3 Fontanivas – the natural lake in Disentis

Nature lovers and anyone seeking peace and quiet will be in their element at Lake Fontanivas in the Surselva region. Nestled in a sunny, sheltered position, surrounded by wonderful mountain scenery, the sweeping meadows invite the grown-ups to relax on the grass, while the children enjoy themselves in the water playground or riding the raft across the lake. Just beside the lake is a TCS campsite with catering facilities.

4 Lagh da Saoseo – Graubünden’s fairytale lake

A lake worthy of the privilege. Up high, hidden amongst larch and stone-pine forests, lies charming Lake Saoseo. Steeped in myth and legend, the mountain lake lies in the Val di Campo nature reserve in the Poschiavo valley; its icy temperatures mean it’s not for the faint-hearted.

5 Lej da Staz – for romantics

Lake Staz lies in the Stazerwald near St. Moritz and is perfect for swimming on hot summer days. It can be reached by mountain bike in around 20 minutes or on foot in around 50 minutes from Celerina, Pontresina or St. Moritz. Since the lake is not supervised, bathing is at users’ own risk. The amenities include a jetty, changing rooms, toilets, a restaurant, a playground, barbecue facilities and recliner benches – everything you need for the perfect day out.
