This works in the same way as our normal service, i.e. hand your bicycle in by 7pm on the evening prior to travel and collect it from 9 am onwards on the day after arriving. This service is available at all manned stations. Fares: Standard bicycles and bicycle trailers travel for CHF 16.00 each, while special cycles (tandems, recumbent bicycles, tricycles and other cycles exceeding two metres in length and/or not suitable for standard hangers) are carried for CHF 32.00 each. Advance booking is only required for groups of ten and more. (Reservations should be made at least 48 hours in advance of departure at the station, or by calling the SBB Rail Service on +41(0)900 300 300). What’s more: Transport insurance with coverage of up to CHF is included. All items are in any case transported in protective covers.
Transporting your bicycle: some useful tips
Things worth knowing
- Each passenger is allowed to transport one bicycle.
- Tandems and recumbent bikes must be accompanied by two paying passengers.
- Children’s and other bike trailers count as a bicycle, and require the purchase of a ticket. Bike trailers must be loaded unpacked.
- No cycling on the platforms! Please dismount and push your bike.
- Please note that you are not allowed to cycle over the train tracks.
Bicycle transport
- It pays to establish a routine for your loading operation. You might find it easier, for example, if one person deals with children and luggage while the over sees to getting the bikes loaded.
- The bikes and associated items carried must be of a weight and size that allows for their trouble-free loading and unloading. Bicycles and associated items must be loaded and unloaded by the passenger(s) concerned, without any outside assistance.
- Bicycles must not be loaded packed with luggage. Saddlebags and luggage must be removed in good time for loading.
- «Oxtails» and trailers must be detached from the towing bicycle.
- Passengers are not allowed into the baggage car during the journey.
- The transporting of own bicycles is not allowed for groups of ten or more passengers. Groups such as those travelling on school excursions are recommended to rent bicycles at their destination. For further information, please go to www.rentabike.ch or see the brochure entitled «Touring with a rented bicycle». If your group nevertheless wishes to travel with its own cycles, these should be checked in as luggage. We will then transport the cycles to any station with baggage-handling facilities.
Notifying us
Please tell the train guard that you are transporting bicycles, and notify him or her in advance of where you intend to get off. Our staff will be pleased to advise you and help ensure your safety when unloading.
Unloading your bicycle
Be sure to report in good time to the bike platform or baggage car, so that you have sufficient time to unload. (Please note, however, that travel in the baggage car is not permitted).
Liability
Self-loaded/unloaded bicycles belong to the category of «hand luggage subject to extra payment». The person carrying out the loading and unloading is responsible for the item(s) handled. The railway shall only be liable for contractual infringement or negligence on its part.
