The RhB is a commercial stock company (Aktiengesellschaft) regulated under Swiss private law, with more than 95% of its shares owned by the cantonal government. It fulfils the same role for the canton of Graubünden as the SBB does for Switzerland as a whole, by providing the canton with passenger and goods rail-transport services. It relies on federal and cantonal subsidies to supply this valuable public service.
